Letter January 1, 1864

Letter Dated 01/01/64

1864 This is New Years day. A happy New Year to you my dear wife and child. Here I am on picket yet at 12 o.c. Our corps has moved camp this morning onto a good piece of ground. Good hard wood. I am glad that I was not with them till they got moved. We are drawn in from picket and lay here in sight of our regt but are not relieved yet. I suppose we will stay here for a while for it is so muddy that nothing can move. I will send you this with the letter I wrote day before yesterday and for the 25 dollars of our bounty which we will get about the 12th of the month and then I will send you some money about 40 dollars. There I can't write any more this time write soon

Yours as ever
truly W.W.vanAmber
